Olivia Attwood ended up working at a strip joint in order to be “immersed” in the next season of Getting Filthy Rich.
The former Love Island actress, who appeared in a pornographic video during the show’s inaugural season last year, revealed she was ‘terrified’ of becoming part and was treated ‘like all the other females’ during the experience.
‘I’m immersed all the way through the series, but I think the episode that I delved the deepest in is the strippers episode, when I actually go to work at a club for the night,’ she said on Monday’s episode of This Morning.
‘The woman that runs the club, she treats me like all the other girls. She gets me in the changing room, checks my hair and make up, how I look, sends me out onto the floor…’
The 32-year-old actress admitted that she expected her modelling expertise to help her overcome her anxiety, but she found it “very daunting.”
‘Terrified. And I actually think, from coming from a modelling background, I’ve done a bit of bikini pageants, that stuff, I was thinking, “I’ll be alright,”‘ she added to hosts Holly Willoughby and Craig Doyle.
‘But actually it’s so intimidating, being in that setup with men looking you and that whole thing is you being sexy. I was really scared, I so nearly backed out.’
Getting engaged firsthand increased her admiration for the ladies who perform the job every week, and she applauded their work ethic while acknowledging it’s not something she could do.
‘When you put yourself right in their shoes for a night – I couldn’t do this week in, week out,’ she said.
The speakers highlighted the industry’s financial challenges, as well as the difficulty in obtaining assistance from local governments owing to the way strip clubs are governed.
‘The strip club industry as a whole is quite an interesting one. A lot I learnt making this film… there is a lot of money changing hands,’ she explained. ‘Sometimes girls can leave clubs [with minus funds], which to me is a big problem.’
Olivia stated that while she has “no background” in the sex work business, this can benefit her with the curriculum since she approaches it with an open mind.
‘I think the way I deal with most things… Just with an open mind, and being someone that was always very interested in this area, around money and the way people are earning money,’ she said. ‘I don’t have any background, I don’t have any experience in that world myself, just a completely balanced view.’
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV1.
