Love Island viewers believe Maya Jama made a dig at Stormzy on Aftersun.
During the episode of the spin-off programme that aired on Sunday, the 28-year-old presenter appeared to feel sympathy for Molly Marsh after her ex Zach wore her bracelet while kissing current girlfriend Kady.
Maya, whose rapper boyfriend is said to have cheated on her before their four-year breakup, seemed to allude to her own prior experiences as they recounted what happened.
She said: ‘That’s real life though girls – and boys, they’ll wear your necklace and lip someone else, we just don’t get it on camera.’
‘I feel like that comment from Maya was directed at Stormzy,’ laughed one fan, while another viewer tweeted: ‘Maya definitely indirecting Stormzy in that comment.’
Although Maya has seldom talked about their breakup, the grime musician earlier said he’made a mistake’ that led to their breakup.
He told Louis Theroux in a 2019 BBC documentary: ‘It was, like, “OK, you made a mistake and you lose someone you loved, someone you cared for, someone who is special to you”.
‘That’s probably the biggest loss a man can have, isn’t it? There were other things in terms of mistakes I’d made. I didn’t do what a man should do to fully appreciate, love and care for his woman.’
The two were notoriously private about their relationship, but Stormzy gave fans an insight inside their breakup with the release of his 2019 album Heavy Is the Head.
In conversation with Charlamagne Stormzy referred to the TV presenter as a “star girl” and “an wonderful woman” after the release of the song Lessons, which is thought to be about their parting.
When asked if there was possibility for reconciliation, Stormzy stated that while he desired it, he wasn’t sure it was in the cards just now.
‘I would love for that to happen, but I don’t know… I would love to be the man who she… I would love to do all the things that make it work,’ he said. ‘I want to marry her, I want to have her children. All of that.’
