Josie Gibson immediately regretted her choice to leap into a pool while live on camera as she began to sink.
The This Morning host, 38, was on vacation in Spain and reporting from a pink-themed home ahead of the Barbie movie’s premiere when she decided to take a brief plunge to cool off.
Josie joked with hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary in the studio that if Alison guaranteed her a cake made by Bake Off finalists, she would fling herself at a flamingo toy floating in the pool.
‘I will jump on that flamingo without falling in,’ she said.
‘Are you ready?’ she added.
Josie recognised she shouldn’t have wasted any time as the flamingo began to float away after some encouragement from the couple.
Fortunately, a producer was nearby to swiftly rush down the pool’s edge and get another toy for Josie, after which she took aim and leapt.
Josie screamed as she plunged in, and the trio burst out laughing when she noticed she’d also forgotten to remove her microphone before jumping in.
‘Can I just say I feel like Josie has just gone on a bit of a jolly and got a few pink things and made it the best holiday. She’s literally on holiday,’ Alison joked, just as a pop could be heard.
Quickly realising she was in trouble, Josie screamed as Alison exclaimed: ‘What is that noise.’
Alison giggled as she wondered whether the toy had blown up and exploded, and she ordered Josie to get out fast to prevent sinking any deeper.
As the show returned to the studio, Josie was heard crying, ‘Oh no, I’m sinking, I’m drowning.’
It’s not the first time Josie’s segments have devolved into pandemonium; she previously came dangerously close to a ‘traumatic’ wardrobe malfunction when her bathing suit came undone live on-air.
Josie was in the outdoor pool with’mermaid teacher’ Lisa back in May to celebrate the debut of the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid.
Josie was charged with going underwater and then slapping the tail she was wearing on the surface as part of the live broadcast.
She immediately realised that the manoeuvre was difficult, so she opted to merely splash around, but her exuberant actions caused her outfit to come undone.
Josie kept her arms firmly in front of her, joking that ‘we don’t quite remember this scene in Little Mermaid,’ before the screen went to pre-recorded footage of people swimming with tails and the presenter tried to distract with a rendition of Under the Sea before thanking Lisa for saving her modesty.
‘Thanks, because that could have been really traumatic for me there,’ she joked.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1.
