Gino D’Acampo’s decision to leave Gordon, Gino, and Fred’s Road Trip is believed to have’surprised’ co-stars Gordon Ramsay and Fred Sirieix, as well as ITV.
His co-stars are reportedly alleged to be ‘frustrated’ by the’real reason’ he departed, which is that he ‘preferred a lay in’ rather than pay.
Due to schedule issues, the TV chef stated only days ago that he will not be returning to the ITV series, which has seen the trio keep fans engaged throughout three seasons, having been to Morocco, America, and Greece.
He said at the time: ‘I’ve got a bit of news for you, and the reason I want to tell you is because I don’t want you to read any crap or any wrong information.
‘Last week I decided not to film any more Gordon, Gino and Fred Road Trip, the reason is simple, nothing to do with Gordon and Fred – the friendship is very strong.
‘It’s just because we can’t get the dates together.’
He continued: ‘And when we do get the dates together sometimes they get changed and it causes a lot of problems for me.’
The Italian chef said that contracts become “extremely difficult,” and that he appreciates his connection with his co-stars more.
‘I rather the friendship than get into arguments with contracts, so I’ve decided not to do Gordon, Gino and Fred anymore because I want to be friends with the boys for many many years. So that’s it really, thank you for watching the show.’
However, the ‘real reason’ has now been revealed, with a source saying: ‘Gino, who loves a party, wanted all sorts of caveats put into his contract around working hours so that he could effectively stay up late and have a bit of a lie-in before filming. He doesn’t like early starts — and made that clear.
‘He also didn’t want to work more than six months of the year which, given the tight schedules they all have, was never going to be practical.’
The insider added to The Sun: ‘Gordon and Fred are obviously quite frustrated and couldn’t kowtow to his requests. It all seemed a bit ludicrous. At the moment things are pretty tense between them.’
This follows reports that his departure was unexpected.
A source said: ‘Everybody connected with the show was shocked by Gino’s post.
‘As far as bosses were concerned, talks were ongoing and a settlement was in reach.’
The insider added to Mail Online: ‘Contract negotiations are always difficult because of the trio’s schedules so the filming window where they can actually get the three of them together is pretty tight.
‘But clearly Gino has lost patience and pulled out.’
‘Bosses hope to convince Gino to stay on with Gordon and Fred, because they genuinely have fun together and make great telly,’ they added.
Bruno’s exit from the programme comes after Fred revealed how much fun the three has while shooting, telling Metro.co.uk: ‘Look, we have a lot of fun, that’s for sure. And that’s why it’s great to do it. And I think that’s what shows on camera, because we have genuine fun.
‘Even if Gordon is just going crazy because we’re having too much fun, that in itself is funny, because you’re like, ‘why are you such a killjoy? Just enjoy life for God’s sake’.
‘Everybody’s different. It’s about live and let live. You’ve got to enjoy people for who they are, no matter what they are, you know?’
