Fans were split after Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky shared a photo of the latter pressing their son’s face into his birthday cake.
Chris, 39, stands by with his hands on his hips and a smile while his wife Elsa, 46, and daughter India playfully thrust their son’s head into a chocolate cake.
The family appeared to be laughing and smiling in what appeared to be a light-hearted mood for the birthday festivities of their twin kids, Tristan and Sasha.
‘La mordida’ is a Mexican ritual in which a parent shoves the birthday celebrant’s face into their cake after taking a mouthful.
Eating a mouthful of the cake without utensils is said to bring good fortune.
Along with the photo, the Thor star added, ‘Happy 9th birthday to my two little men!’ In our family, there is only one way to consume cake: ram your head into it face first!!
“Hey mum I don’t like chocolate cake I prefer vanilla” “oh really son, what about now”?’
Nevertheless, not everyone agreed with Chris’ assessment that this practise is only for fun and games.
‘Why people smash their kids face in the cake is above my understanding but whatever,’ one person wrote. [sic]
Another replied: ‘Agreed. I think it’s ridiculous.’
‘It’s so violent,’ chimed in a third, while others disagreed, as one responded: ‘Because it’s funny and a family tradition and it give kids a memory to laugh at and then the look forward to it happening to their siblings and they share the joy. Just a bit of basic humour….. they look like they are having a good time together.’
A second person agreed as they said: ‘It’s a tradition. Let people be happy 🙄’.
‘Violent? It’s a bit of play!’ another person said, ‘Those kids are gonna grow up able to take a joke not be some little fairy who thinks having their head dipped in frosting is violent’.
‘Does everyone here want cake all over their face?’ wondered one. I didn’t believe so. Why should your child? And it’s quite wasteful. So, after the foolish, not hilarious trick, you’re just going to toss away a perfectly excellent cake?’
Others were simply worried about the cake, as one concerned individual asked: ‘Please tell me you didn’t waste a whole cake? Lol.’
