Kerry Katona recently disclosed a disease that has left her with’swelling’ and ‘fatty lumps’ on her body.
The 42-year-old Atomic Kitten star has been diagnosed with lipoedema, which the NHS defines as an abnormal accumulation of fat in the legs and occasionally arms.
According to research, it is caused by hormonal changes, such as those that occur during pregnancy or puberty.
Despite the fact that there is no cure for lipoedema, there are ways to prevent it from developing. Lipoedema can cause severe pain and limit the ability to conduct everyday duties.
Mum-of-five Kerry has embarked on an exercise regimen to manage the disease, which is not caused by weight, and has shared her newfound optimism with her admirers.
‘Today is the first day of the rest of your life people!! I absolutely love Monday mornings! New day, new week, clean slate, fresh beginning!’, she wrote to her 811k Instagram followers.
Detailing her condition, Kerry went on: ‘I was diagnosed lipidaemia last week which means swelling of the body and random fatty lumps. But f**k that s**t!!! Gonna train the s**t out of my body! [sic]’
The caption was accompanied by a video of Kerry executing a series of stretches while working out in her living room.
‘If you look at the video you can see the swelling at the top of my stomach, cross my ribs, and also my shins and knees… their that big they’ve got their own bleeding personalities!! [sic]’, she wrote.
Kerry said that she’s also got a broken foot, but is determined to keep going.
She added defiantly: ‘is that gonna stop me?????? Hell no!!’
Exercising, eating healthily, and keeping a healthy weight can lessen lipoedema-related pain and discomfort and make it simpler to move about.
Yet, while physical activity is useful for lipoedema, lipoedema fat is far more resistant to diet and exercise than ordinary fat.
Depending on the severity of the lipoedema, more than one procedure may be required to remove the fat, and these procedures may not be covered by the NHS.
Kerry is not the first celebrity to discuss the issue.
Shaughna Phillips, a Love Island star, received liposuction on her legs in 2020 to cure lipoedema.
Shaughna’s legs were drained of two litres of fat after she developed irritation, tenderness, swelling, and bruising.
She subsequently revealed that the treatment significantly boosted her confidence, particularly after being exposed to brutal internet harassment.
Nonetheless, the recuperation period was protracted since her wounds “leaked” and she was had to wear compression garments.
