Ed Sheeran surprised a local New York City tube busker with complimentary tickets to his event.
The 32-year-old brightened Mike Yung’s day by inviting him to his gig at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, where he performed all of his new album Subtract for the first time in America.
Mike, 62, went famous in 2016 after a video of him singing Unchained Melody by The Righteous Brothers in a tube stop went viral.
His internet popularity landed him a position on America’s Got Talent, and he eventually released a studio album two years later, in 2018.
On Monday, the well-known busker was in the middle of making a video performing Ed’s new song Eyes Closed when the celebrity himself approached him at Brooklyn’s Church Street subway station.
During the chorus of the megastar’s latest big single, the performer was hitting all the right notes when Ed startled him by jumping in.
They exchanged a heartfelt hug before Ed offered the other singer tickets to his next gig.
Ed and Mike stood singing side by side for a few seconds until the busker exclaimed, ‘Made my day,’ as the lyrics came to a conclusion.
The famous musician then asked his new acquaintance if he could show him something and produced a set of tickets to see him perform live.
Mike released a video of the duo duetting on Instagram after a fortuitous encounter with the singer.
Fans were quick to express their surprise at the meeting and heaped admiration on both artists in the comments section.
One wrote: ‘What a magical day; you were incredible, Mike! [sic]’.
Another said: ‘Amazing both of you. Im in New York next year. Would love to come across you in the subway to listen [sic]’.
‘I love Ed… such a down to earth and humble dude! So glad he did this! [sic],’ a social media user mentioned in response to the post.
