When is Obsession released on Netflix?
Obsession will premiere on Netflix on Thursday, April 13, with all four episodes available at the same time.
The cast was announced in the spring of 2022, with filming taking place in and around London.
Who is in the cast?
Richard Armitage
Richard Armitage (The Hobbit) plays unfaithful spouse William Farrow.
‘I was curious by the psychology of what drives a very successful man, with a really nice wife, a fantastic family, and really nothing wrong in his life,’ he said of his character.
‘Was there a time when he could have taken a step back and not crossed the line? Or was the attraction so strong that he couldn’t resist it? I wanted to investigate the concept of choice.
‘You could take one path and stay on the right side of the line or you could cross it and watch the rest of your life unravel from that decision. I wanted people to ask themselves what side of the line they’d be on.’
The 51-year-old English actor is most known for his role as Thorin Oakenshield, although he has also appeared in The Stranger and Stay Close.
Charlie Murphy
Peaky Blinders’ Charlie Murphy plays Anna, William’s son Jay’s enigmatic fiancée.
‘On the one hand, she’s desperately looking for normalcy to anchor and heal her, and that’s what she gets from Jay, but the destructive side seeks out danger and annihilation, and that’s what William represents,’ the 34-year-old actress, who has also appeared in Happy Valley, said of her character.
Charlie added: ‘Anna is the dominant submissive in the relationship and it’s incredibly important to her that she’s the one who sets the rules. She appears to give him the reins, but she also lets him know exactly what the boundaries are, and she is diligent and vigilant about it.
‘And how often do you see women on screen in control of the sex. It was so empowering.’
Indira Varma
Indira Varma plays William’s wife Ingrid, who discovers the affair after the shocking conclusion.
The 49-year-old actor has acted in shows such as Game of Thrones, Luther, and The Canterbury Tales.
She admitted having to think twice before taking on her Obsession role, saying: ‘Initially, I thought, “Oh poor Ingrid, the woman that it’s all been done to rather than the woman doing something herself. I thought, is there enough here?
‘And then I carried on reading and, as it turns out, by the end of the drama, Ingrid has actually been on the most amazing journey. It really is astonishing.’
Rish Shah
Rish Shah plays Anna’s fiancée, as well as Ingrid and William’s son, Jay.
He is well recognised for his role as Kamra in Marvel’s Ms. Marvel, as well as his roles in To All the Boys: Always and Forever and the Oscar-winning film The Long Goodbye alongside Riz Ahmed.
‘I knew I wanted to do it from the start because I hadn’t really stepped into a role like this before,’ the 25-year-old said.
‘I hadn’t done a leading role in a British drama or anything of this nature – a dark and erotic thriller.
‘I wanted to be thrown into it and challenged by it. And I absolutely got my dream come true.’
Obsession lands on Netflix on Thursday, April 13.
