Fans of Ted Lasso were in for a surprise on Wednesday night when show star Nick Mohammed appeared on The One Show.
Or, more specifically, what Nick wore during his interview on the flagship show.
Nick, who portrays shy kitman-turned-coach Nate, sat on the couch with his co-star Phil Dunster, who plays AFC Richmond striker Jamie Tartt.
The two were promoting the third season of the popular Apple TV Plus comedy, which teases significant character developments for both of them.
Viewers couldn’t help but notice Nick’s pinafore as they spoke football with another guest and England women’s national team captain Leah Williamson.
The 42-year-old actor, comedian, and writer was dressed in what seemed to be a Ted Lasso-inspired shirt, with the legend ‘Diamond Dogs’ printed over an image of a cream greyhound and a red diamond outline.
The Diamond Dogs are an elite group of guys in Richmond who use it as a safe environment to vent and discuss their opinions about the programme.
Members include Ted (Jason Sudeikis), Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt), Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein), Higgins (Jeremy Swift), and Nate – until recently…
They also use canine woofing and barking to emphasise their unexpected gatherings, and episode eight of the first season is titled after the group.
Fans of the programme, unsurprisingly, were smitten.
‘Omg I need that Diamond Dogs sweater so badly,’ tweeted one viewer, while another wrote: ‘@nickmohammed please tell me WHERE ur #Diamonddogs jumper is from. I NEED this in my life [sic].’
‘I want a #DiamondDogs sweatshirt like @nickmohammed’s,’ announced a third.
Others, meanwhile, were overjoyed to match with one of the show’s stars.
‘Awwww Nick with the Diamond Dogs tshirt [sic],’ posted one.
