Shaun Ryder and Gillian McKeith demonstrated that time truly heals all wounds after an encounter in the South African forest pushed them to confront their difficulties.
The Happy Mondays frontman, 60, and the Scottish TV personality, 63, initially met while filming I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2010 and clashed several times while traversing the jungle’s duties.
The couple split up on bad terms, only to meet years later for the all-star spin-off I’m A Celebrity… They were the first two contestants kicked off the show in South Africa.
The surprise trio met on Lorraine Kelly’s sofa on Monday to announce they have put their historic feud behind them.
Shaun held Gillian’s hand throughout the interview with ITV programme stand-in host Ranvir Singh till she pointed out how attached the two guests seemed.
When they were discussing their feud, Gillian turned to Shaun and asked for an apology for something he said during the 2010 season.
‘You said to Ant and Dec that if I were your wife – because now we’re all buddy-buddy he needs to do this – you would put me in pieces inside a plastic bag and dig a hole in the garden,’ she exclaimed.
Shaun replied by asking her to find the statement on video and apologising to the star.
Gillian claimed she had no clue Shaun would be back in the jungle for the second time, and she was scared when she saw his face at the camp.
She went on to claim that she was a great admirer of the musician’s wife and that the two families had bumped into each other numerous times with their children over the previous 12 years.
The presenter said: ‘We’ve turned a corner. It’s kind of an interesting life story really, we didn’t get on in 2010 but we’ve come full circle.
‘You can do it, you don’t have to carry the past to the future.’
They were all smiles as they showed viewers ‘how to heal a rift’ at the end of their conversation on the morning talk programme.
Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
I’m A Celebrity South Africa continues tonight at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
