Piers Morgan has paid homage to Susanna Reid as she celebrates 20 years on morning TV, labelling her his “ex-TV wife.”
Susanna began her career as a co-presenter on BBC Breakfast in 2003, where she worked alongside Charlie Stayt and the late Bill Turnbull until 2014.
In the same year that she departed the show, she joined ITV’s Good Morning Britain, where she worked with Piers, Ben Shephard, and Kate Garraway.
Susanna honoured her two-decade work anniversary on morning television on Wednesday, March 22, adding it was a “sad” she couldn’t celebrate with Bill, who died last year at the age of 66.
On Twitter, several people shared messages hailing Susanna, including dubbing her the ‘goat [greatest of all time] of morning telly’.
‘Congrats to my ex-TV wife @susannareid100 on her 20th anniversary of presenting breakfast TV,’ wrote Piers, who left GMB in March 2021.
Posting a picture of himself and Susanna together, he added: ‘Amazing achievement! ps I miss those eye-rolls….’
GMB’s Noel Phillips shared an emoji of a goat, writing: ‘@susannareid100 the goat of morning telly.’
Sports correspondent and former footballer Mark Bright chimed in to say: ‘Many congratulations @susannareid100 20yrs of breakfast tv.’
Lorraine Kelly also sent a message for her ITV colleague during today’s GMB.
‘More congratulations. 20 years on breakfast TV. We got you a wee gift, it’s very silly,’ she revealed.
Susanna was then presented with a ‘platinum’ award, as Lorraine quipped: ‘How silly is that?’
‘You’re the queen of breakfast telly,’ Susanna insisted to Lorraine.
Today also saw the publication of the nominees for the Bafta TV Awards, with GMB gaining a nod in the news coverage category for Susanna’s chat with Boris Johnson.
The show will compete with BBC News at Ten, which will be covering Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and Channel 4 News, which will be reporting live from Kyiv.
In response to the nomination, Susanna wrote: ‘SO PROUD of our @gmb team – such a prestigious award in journalism. And a significant way to mark 20 years in breakfast television.’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
