Piers Morgan likened the reaction to Gary Lineker’s Nazi Germany statements to the reaction to Jeremy Clarkson’s disgusting Meghan Markle remarks.
The Match Of The Day host compared the government’s contentious plans to restrict migrants from crossing the Channel in tiny boats to the UK to Hitler’s rule in the 1930s.
The footballer-turned-pundit has refused to retract his remarks, which have been slammed by Tory party members, including vice chairman Lee Anderson, who famously said that people could make ‘nutritious 30p dinners’.
Meanwhile, the Top Gear host startled the nation with a horrifying essay about the Duchess of Sussex, which quickly became the most complained-about story in history.
On Thursday’s Uncensored, the former Good Morning Britain host examined the backlash to Lineker and Clarkson’s statements, calling them “victims of a witch hunt.”
Morgan said: ‘Gary Lineker and Jeremy Clarkson play for very different teams: one is a woke warrior who talks about football; the other is a curmudgeonly culture warrior who mainly talks about cars and farms.’
He continued: ‘Clarkson and Lineker could hardly be more different; what unites him is they have both been the victims of witch hunts in recent months for upsetting supporters on the other side.
‘Jeremy Clarkson made a crass, hand-fisted joke about his legitimate loathing for Meghan Markle. A tyrannical mob brandished pitchforks and demanded Amazon and ITV to sever their ties with him – maybe they’ll get their wish.
‘Gary Lineker made pretty exaggerated comparisons between the government’s migrant policy and Nazi Germany. A tyrannical mob descended to demand he get fired by the BBC and they may get their wish.’
Following the criticism on Wednesday, Lineker said he would ‘continue to try and speak up for those poor souls that have no voice.’
Before being asked how many “strikes” he had had on impartiality and social media, BBC director-general Tim Davie informed the BBC he had not talked to Lineker.
Davie said: ‘I wouldn’t talk specifically about individuals; I don’t think it’s right. I think the BBC absolutely puts the highest value on impartiality and that’s clearly important to us.’
Lineker confirmed his return to MOTD on Saturday and slammed the ‘ridiculously exaggerated narrative’ on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Clarkson apologised for his’disgraceful’ language, and The Sun pulled the piece from its website.
His future at Clarkson’s Farm and The Grand Tour broadcaster Amazon is unknown, however ITV confirmed he was not fired from Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?
