On Monday, Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby made their much-anticipated return to This Morning.
However, while rumours about the health of their friendship behind the scenes continues to circulate, the couple made no mention of it as they began the show.
The performance began in an unusual fashion, with famed composer Alan Menken performing some of his most celebrated tunes on the piano to promote Disney’s upcoming live-action film The Little Mermaid alongside Halle Bailey.
Holly, 42, grinned from ear to ear when Phillip, 61, suggested that she might audition for a Disney play.
Following their initial encounter, the pair sat down with Gyles Brandreth and Camilla Tominey to discuss the day’s top topics – but avoided bringing up their personal friendship generating headlines.
Instead, they began the conversation by discussing Eurovision, with Holly confessing that she greatly appreciated Finland’s runner-up performance.
After Alan’s stunning piano performance, Phillip said: ‘Wow, what a way to start your Monday This Morning. Welcome.’
He then turned to Holly to tell her: ‘That is right up your street.’
‘So up my street. It’s just a little taste of what we’ve got coming up later ahead of the release of The Little Mermaid.
‘Award-winning Disney composer Alan Menken will be performing a medley of some of his best-known songs, and I’m going to try really hard not to sing along.’
Phillip exclaimed to Holly: ‘This could be your audition! This could be the big moment.’
His co-host, on the other hand, stated that singing was not her ‘forte’.
Holly looked to Phillip, contemplating whether he would be up for the trek, while discussing the news that tourists may fly to Sydney in two hours via space within the next ten years.
Phillip was caught earlier in the day on his way to work at the ITV studio, appearing gloomy as he walked past a vehicle.
The TV star dressed down for his travel, wearing a light shirt, blue trousers, and brown boots and carried a black bag on his shoulder.
According to a source, Phillip felt he could ‘rough out’ the scenario he and Holly are now in.
‘He will think he can tough it out, like he has previous controversies such as Queue-gate,’ they told The Mirror.
‘But to be honest, it’s out of his hands. If the viewers don’t believe in him and Holly, something’s got to give – and that will most likely be Phil. It’s a massive week for them both.’
It was previously alleged by the Daily Mail that he had reached out to lawyers to ensure his return to This Morning, with sources stating that it was a ‘clear sign that he is taking this very seriously’.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
