Clive Owen has delivered his most frank interview about his divorce from ex-wife Amanda to date.
The Our Yorkshire Farm actors announced their split last summer, and Clive reiterated on Thursday’s Lorraine that he doesn’t want pity from show viewers.
The pair rose to prominence thanks to the Channel 5 show, which follows them and their family as they navigate life in Ravensear, near Richmond in North Yorkshire.
Amanda, 48, and Clive, 68, have nine children and have been married for 22 years.
Speaking to Christine Lampard this week, Clive said: ‘One of the things I hear is people saying, “poor Clive”. And I feel that isn’t right. We filmed Yorkshire Farm, people loved it.’
He went on: ‘[Filming the show] we had this opportunity to make it more secure as a family.
‘That was what drove her. It was amazing and successful, but I handled it very badly. It was such a change in our lives and I sadly made a right mess of things.’
Clive added: ‘I had a massive part to play in our relationship ending. When all this is going on, here I am ranting and raving and drinking and carrying on.
‘We were all committed to this thing but it seemed to eat away at me and I handled it badly. I should have been supportive and I was doing the opposite.’
Amanda said earlier this year that she and Clive still work together and that things have been simpler after their divorce.
‘People assume that because I’m separated from my husband, Clive, things are harder, but in fact it’s the opposite,’ she shared.
Amanda went on to explain: ‘We have two farms that are basically next door to each other, so it’s close enough for it to be useful, but far enough for us to have space.’
She continued to The Times: ‘Whatever our personal situation, there’s a farm to run and nine children to look after so we’re just working together, making it happen.’
