Nick Knowles has revealed his transformation after fans labelled him ‘unrecognisable’ during his most recent television appearance.
The 61-year-old television personality is best known for hosting series such as DIY SOS, Who Dares Wins, Break the Safe, and Real Rescues.
He is now marketing his latest project, a television show in which he travels down the Mississippi River in the United States.
However, when Nick appeared on The One Show on Monday night, fans were rather distracted by his appearance.
It was something host Alex Jones even pointed out, saying: ‘There’s an elephant in the room here. Nobody’s talking about it. There’s a new look, Nick, going on…’
Explaining the change, Nick said why he’d decided to embrace a new look.
‘I’m not actually doing any filming for a while. I’m doing some writing and things and so I had the chance to grow a beard… I can’t have a beard like this when I’m filming,’ he said.
He also mentioned that he was set to start a new acting job with a pal and had been able to grow a beard for the role.
However, many people on social media expressed their first surprise at Nick’s new facial hair.
‘Nick Knowles is totally unrecognisable,’ Jo Conway posted.
‘Bloody hell, Nick Knowles! I could tell it was him by the voice, but when I looked up, I seriously couldn’t recognise him!’ Katherine Speirs shared.
Meanwhile, Liam Arnold claimed Nick appeared to be ‘gearing up for a part’.
Although Nick’s tour across the United States appeared to go off without a hitch, he recently disclosed a close call occurred while shooting in Mongolia.
Earlier this month, the host stated that he nearly lost his tongue after seeing a shaman who was blowtorching a knife until it was white hot.
Nick was then told to lick it to ‘get rid of the bad spirits’.
‘I was like… “If I burn my tongue badly enough then that’s the end of my career, because I can’t speak.” And so I licked it,’ he said.
He added to The Sun: ‘Every time I get into something hairy, I think, “I’ve come all the way here and I’m supposed to be having a go”, so you have to have a go no matter how terrifying it is.’
The One Show airs weeknights at 7pm on BBC One.
