Maya Jama refused to put up with Love Island fans booing over the show’s stars, and we have to say, good on her for putting a stop to it.
On Sunday’s Aftersun, the presenter unpacked the newest drama from the villa, following the controversial Movie Night, which revealed some unsettling secrets.
Scott van der Sluis was forced to witness as his ex-girlfriend Catherine Agbaje rekindled her romance with Elom Ahlijah-Wilson, kissing him passionately and receiving approval from the other females.
Despite Scott’s scathing dig at Leah Taylor earlier in the night, when he claimed she hadn’t said anything in ‘four weeks’ on the show, it appears that many Love Island fans are on his side when it comes to his past romance with Catherine, after he stood up for her in front of their fellow castmates.
Maya, 28, told fans on the companion show to the main show that although certain parts of Movie Night were “sweet,” others were “salty.”
Addressing one of the situationships at the centre of the drama, the presenter said: ‘Catherine, who coupled up with Elom, did we expect…’
Members of the studio audience began booing before she could complete her statement.
‘Oh no!’ shouted the presenter immediately, while Made in Chelsea star Sam Thompson could be seen wincing in dread on the sofa, as former Love Island contestant Faye Winter placed a palm on her heart.
‘Hey hey hey, I’m anti-booing anyone,’ Maya scolded the fans of the show.
She continued, ‘We don’t see everything, fine – let’s be polite,’ emphasising that what fans see in the competition is merely a slice of what the islanders get up to throughout their whole day.
One person on Twitter applauded how Maya handled the situation, writing: ‘They were booing Catherine but Maya Jama asked them to stop because we don’t see everything,’ alongside a row of clapping emojis.
Another admirer tweeted: ‘I never really watched aftersun but Maya Jama whewww she’s just too good at this.’
Leah was shocked to see how intimate Montel McKenzie was with Tink Reading at Casa Amor, while Jess Harding was moved to tears by what Sammy Root said about her behind her back.
Meanwhile, Ella Thomas stated that she never kissed Ouzy See in Casa Amor, despite the fact that the two appeared close in bed, while Tyrique Hyde’s antics persuading the other lads to kiss new girls while they were away from their spouses were exposed for all to see.
Love Island returns tomorrow at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
