MasterChef 2022 champion Eddie Scott is going back to the day job for now, despite winning the biggest cookery competition in the UK.
Eddie nabbed the win in last night’s grand finale, where he faced strong competition from Pookie Tredell and Radha Kaushal-Bollan, who finished as runners-up.
The marine pilot impressed throughout with his cuisine honing in on Indian flavours mixed with French cooking styles, which successfully wowed John Torode and Gregg Wallace.
His win means he’s sure to be high in demand and destined for an exciting new career in food.
But asked whether he’d be going back to his previous role, he admitted he’s going to give it a bit more time yet.
Chatting to Metro.co.uk after his victory, he told us: ‘I’m going to continue with that for a little while, my old job.’
But he is, of course, keen to carve out his position in the culinary industry.
He continued: ‘Obviously, it’s always been a passion and a dream of mine to have a career in the food industry, now MasterChef has made that possible.
‘I would love to get some experience in some top restaurant kitchens, to develop my skills further and I’d love nothing more than to open my own restaurant to showcase my food.
‘I love writing I’d love to write about food, whether it be a cookbook or for a newspaper or magazine. Lots of exciting plans ahead, I’m sure!’
Eddie told us just how much he loved getting to cook in the iconic kitchen, and knew he had what it took to scoop the prize, even with tough competition.
‘I always knew it was going to be a really challenging final, everyone was going to be on their A-game, it is hard and there’s extra pressure in the final. From the skill of all the cooks I’ve come across this year in the competition, the standard was incredibly high.
‘But I always enjoyed cooking in the MasterChef kitchen. I knew that and knew if I turned up on the day, with as much energy and passion as I had before then I could be successful, I could do that. There was no reason why I couldn’t win!’
He went on to add more about his calm approach to the contest: ‘I just had to be on top of my game and cook with love and the passion that I have that’s what happened I put up my three best plates of food I wowed John and Greg. It was it was an amazing feeling. That’s how it happened on the day.’
He also noted how much the experience of going on the programme bonded him with his fellow contestants and they’re already planning their next meet up and joint cooking sessions, which sound like great fun.
‘I’ve met some fantastic people, fantastic friends that I will stay in touch with for life. I always believe you meet the best friends when you go through an experience together.
‘We’ll definitely keep in touch and we’ll be planning to cook together!’ he concluded.
