Moon Knight star Oscar Isaac improvised key moment of episode 6 finale post-credits scene with Jake Lockley

One of the producers of Moon Knight has revealed how a key moment in the finale post-credits scene, when Jake Lockley was revealed, was improvised by Oscar Isaac.

This week, episode 6 of the Marvel series came out on Disney Plus, marking an end to the rollercoaster journey of Marc Spector, Steven Grant, adventurer Layla El-Faouly (May Calamawy) and antagonist Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke).

Having witnessed Marc and Steven flit between identities, as part of Marc’s dissociative identity disorder, in the closing moments of the post-credits scene, a third identity that had been heavily hinted at was confirmed, as Jake made his debut.

Speaking in Spanish, Jake – who was driving a limousine – turned around to face Harrow in the passenger seat as he said: ‘Today is your turn to lose.’

Many fans were overjoyed by Jake speaking Spanish, with one who celebrated the moment tweeting: ‘The moment Oscar Isaac speaks Spanish and introduces Jake Lockley my heart just burst.’

In a new interview, executive producer Grant Curtis revealed that character decision was all thanks to Oscar.

‘It was all Oscar. That was not on the page,’ he told Entertainment Weekly.

‘Oscar brought so many narrative elements to this show, both in front of the camera and behind. He’s a storyteller first and foremost, and that was just one of the many contributions he made to this series.’

Grant addressed the fact that in the comics, Marc, Steven and Jake are the three predominant identities that readers come across.

Therefore, when the show ‘became a two-hander between Marc Spector and Steven Grant’, they decided to ‘thread’ him in from episode one throughout the rest of the series, before his official introduction.

‘It really became evident that the best place to put him was at the end and make that the tag and [set up] the new journey ahead at the end of episode 6,’ he added.

While a second season of the show hasn’t been confirmed, the cast and creators have expressed interest in continuing, depending on the right story.

Could further exploration of Jake be the golden ticket?

In the comics, Jake is a taxi driver, who’s able to gather information on the streets through his profession.

His presence was hinted at on several occasions during the series, such as when Marc and Steven blacked out, discovering after gaining consciousness that they have blood on their hands.

When Marc and Steven appear in the mental institution in the afterlife, a sarcophagus is seen shaking in another room, implying that there’s someone inside trying to escape.
