Martin Lewis, who has previously served as a presenter on Good Morning Britain, has now formally signed on as a regular host on the ITV show.
Martin, best known as the creator of the website MoneySavingExpert.com, is a regular on GMB, offering financial advice and usually holding politicians accountable.
In the midst of the cost of living crisis, he earned a regular slot on the programme last year, commencing Martin’s Money Mondays in September 2022 alongside Susanna Reid.
The broadcaster has now decided to grant the 50-year-old a regular job, which will see him appear with Susanna, 52, on certain Wednesdays during the year on the breakfast programme.
Martin acknowledged his ‘pleasure’ at taking on the role, stating in a statement: ‘Having the authority to hold politicians accountable, over the expense of living, is a privilege and a responsibility.
‘It’s a slight gear change from my usual work, but after years of answering complex questions, it’s nice for once to be asking them. So I was delighted when ITV offered me the role of regular presenter.’
Martin stated that taking on the new role was “difficult” since he had to manage it around his day job as the Money Saving Expert, which is always his “priority.”
‘So I’m hopeful the solution we’ve come up with, to lock in a dozen special shows a year, sitting alongside Susanna Reid’s brilliant journalism, is one the show’s viewers will welcome,’ he shared.
Singing Martin’s praises, Susanna stated: ‘Martin Lewis is undoubtedly the voice of the nation when it comes to the cost of living crisis.
‘Together we will continue to challenge politicians and hold them to account. I can’t wait to have him sitting next to me again at the GMB desk from next week.’
Martin will kick off his new position as a regular GMB host on Wednesday March 29 for a tax year end special.
Emma Gormley, the managing director of ITV daytime, added: ‘As Good Morning Britain continues to answer the questions the nation wants and needs answering each weekday morning, we’re thrilled to welcome Martin Lewis as a regular co-host.’
The nominees for the 2023 Bafta TV Awards were released earlier this week, with GMB gaining a nod in the news coverage category for Susanna’s conversation with Boris Johnson.
Having also marked her 20-year anniversary of working on breakfast TV this week, Susanna celebrated the Bafta news by tweeting: ‘SO PROUD of our @gmb team – such a prestigious award in journalism. And a significant way to mark 20 years in breakfast television.’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
