Priyanka Chopra Jonas has confessed that the stunts for her new TV show Citadel were so intense that she was permanently scarred.
Priyanka, 40, co-stars alongside Game of Thrones’ Richard Madden in the forthcoming Prime Video spy thriller as Nadia Sinh and Mason Kane, respectively.
Both characters are spies who have had their memories erased and must work together as mysteries from their past emerge.
Priyanka and Richard discussed their roles in the drama executive-produced by Avengers: Endgame’s Anthony and Joseph Russo at a recent press event attended by Metro.co.uk.
When questioned about the physical aspect of their performances, Priyanka said, “Well, I have a scar on my forehead,” before adding that the scar was closer to her brow.
‘That’s courtesy of Citadel. I don’t even cover it anymore,’ she added, before showering Citadel’s stunts with praise.
‘The stunts were amazing. I think Joe and Anthony brought the most incredible stunt team onto the show. I mean, obviously, with their repertoire work, they have worked with the best in the business.’
Expressing her admiration for the stunt team, the Love Again star said: ‘We were really lucky to be able to work with people like that, our stunt team was incredible. I think Nadia’s character’s a badass, and she comes from a place of trusting her body and her instincts.
‘I got to explore a lot of that with the stunts that we did. Every time I would read new pages, the stunts would just get bigger and bigger. It was amazing to be able to imagine that and then walk in the set and actually execute it. It was great.’
Richard jumped in to hint how “huge” the set pieces are in the thriller, calling it “amazing to be a part of.”
‘Not only that, but I think oftentimes we see shows that are 80% drama, 20% action, or vice versa. This show aimed to be 100% of both,’ he stated.
‘I think that’s what we’ve managed to pull off because in the middle of these huge sequences with explosions and cars blowing up and all of that that I don’t want to spoil for you, we have this really intimate drama between these two characters and how they dance together.
‘So for me, that’s what was so exciting about these huge action pieces was that they are infused with heart and drama and storytelling. We get to see a lot about these characters, how they physically interact – not just great action sequences, but there’s drama at the heart of each one of them.’
Priyanka added that the ‘choices’ that appear in the action sequences are essential when it comes to character development because of ‘what their characters are feeling’.
‘There’s a story interwoven in all the stunts. That was just very cool and new for me, as well,’ she outlined.
Citadel premieres on Friday April 28 on Prime Video.
