The Love Island mansion and Barbie’s Dreamhouse are the unanticipated crossover that has become a reality.
Chris Taylor, who debuted on the programme in 2019 and dated Maura Higgins for six months the following year before splitting in May 2021, has Margot Robbie to thank for his appearance in the next film.
He announced the news on Instagram a few days ago, with a cryptic allusion to the ‘beautiful beam of human sunlight’ who assisted him in landing the position.
Now, he’s gone into more detail about the bizarre sequence of events that led to his appearance in the summer blockbuster, and he’s revealed that it was actually Love Island superfan Margot who assisted him.
‘I know she’s got a secret account that follows Love Islanders, so hopefully she would have seen that,’ he told Cosmopolitan UK. ‘I saw her on the red carpet and I got to say a quick thank you, but I didn’t really get a chance to see her after that.’
Back in 2020, his housemates and fellow Love Island graduates Michael Griffiths and Jordan Hames ran into Margot at the Birds of Prey screening, and she was reportedly ‘gassed’ to see them.
The friends were talking about their night when’someone got a message stating Margot wanted us all to come to the afterparty,’ so they had to leave.
Chris arrived at her hotel with a smaller group of people, allowing him to have a more in-depth conversation with the Suicide Squad star.
‘She’s just really down to earth and cool. She’s one of the nicest people I’ve ever met,’ he said, while a year and a half later Warner Bros got in touch asking him to audition for Barbie.
He was ‘fully convinced it was a prank’ from a YouTuber, but six months later he was at the studio for costume fittings when h e saw Ryan Gosling – AKA Ken – walk past in the car park.
His sequence occurs in the middle of the film, and he was on set with Ryan, Ncuti Gatwa, and Ben Kingsley, who all portray different incarnations of Ken.
He described new Doctor Who actor Ncuti as “the kindest person” he’s ever met, and said he helped him feel “comfortable” while filming.
He added: ‘I met him when I did my fitting and I was really surprised he knew who I was. He’d watched Love Island and said really nice things, including that I should have won.
‘He was just super easy to get on with, made me feel really at home and comfortable, because he knew I’m not an actor and was going to be nervous, so he came over and spoke to me a few times.’
Chris isn’t the only Love Island star who auditioned for the film; Tasha Ghouri recently stated that she was in the running for a role as a dancer in the film but didn’t make the cut.
‘Filming was at the same time as Love Island so everything does happen for a reason,’ she told OK! magazine.
