Language Of Love’s Ricky Merino wasn’t initially familiar with his co-host Davina McCall’s television work when he first learnt they would be teaming up for the Channel 4 dating series.
The 35-year-old presenter, who hails from Majorca, confessed to Metro.co.uk that he had to look up the Big Brother star before they met for the first time.
After their first in-person introduction, Ricky immediately recognised Davina – not from her Big Brother days though, but from her days on MTV and hosting the Brit Awards.
‘When they told me Davina McCall was the co-host, I Googled her because her name wasn’t familiar,’ Ricky admitted. ‘Then I saw she was the host from Big Brother.
‘But when we met in Malaga, her face was so familiar… I realised she was the host from MTV Europe. I also remembered I knew Davina from when she hosted the Brit awards in 2000.
‘I know that year because the Spice Girls won. All that information came to my mind at once. I was like, “Oh my goodness. I know Davina McCall!”’
Of course, Davina is a household name in the UK with her illustrious hosting career boasting of huge names from Big Brother to The Jump and Million Pound Drop.
Ricky was delighted to be partnered up with Davina for Language Of Love and branded her the ‘perfect co-host’.
‘She made things so easy for me,’ he swooned.
Davina previously praised their ‘natural chemistry’ and Ricky’s ‘amazing’ vocals.
She gushed: ‘I love him so much! Anybody who works in television will know that doubleheaders – presenting with somebody else – are so luck of the draw.
‘You’ve either got chemistry with someone or you haven’t. I obviously had looked at Ricky’s Instagram page before and thought “he is fabulous, he has an amazing singing voice, he’s very glamourous – he’s exactly my type of guy,” but you never know until you meet someone in the flesh and OH. MY. GOD.’
A match made in heaven, we think!
Language Of Love airs tonight at 10pm on Channel 4.
