Janet Street-Porter shared a terrible event that occurred when she was strolling alone.
On Thursday afternoon, the 76-year-old was having a ‘peaceful stroll’ alone herself in Kent when she claims a guy ‘drove up behind’ her and began yelling insults.
The Loose Women star took to Twitter to reveal the ordeal, saying: ‘I went for a quiet walk by the sea in Kent this afternoon.
‘A car suddenly drove up behind me, the man behind the wheel screamed I HATE YOU, WE ALL HATE YOU, YOU ARE STUPID and when I tried walk away he turned round and spat out YOU WILL GO DOWN.’
Her co-star Judi Love commented on her post, saying, ‘Hun omg.’
Janet subsequently stated that she was ‘OK’ but’shocked’ when updating her fans.
She wrote: ‘I am ok, but it was a bit of a shock.
‘I don’t know a single person who would get pleasure from driving up to a woman walking by herself on a quiet road by the sea and shouting abuse at her.
‘But maybe I haven’t lived!’
This comes after Janet opened up about the awful harassment she had previously endured, recounting a period when she was teased for her accent during her early career.
During a segment on hurtful comments when each presenter described a moment they had been faced with harsh words over the years, she claimed she used to be called names by her male coworkers.
‘When I started as a journalist and went on the radio in 1971, the outcry over my accent was ludicrous,’ Janet remarked on ITV’s afternoon show.
‘I had all these blokes, posh white blokes of a certain age, saying I sounded common, I was unintelligent.
‘I was, you know, I should be “put down”, one man said if he saw me crossing the road he would run me over.
‘And it really had an impact on me.’
She had spoken about comments she had received over her accent in the past and revealed on the show in 2020: ‘I have had people mimicking my accent to my face and they come up to me in a supermarket or something.
‘They say “my daughter does a really good you” and then some person is brought up and does me and it’s not very funny at all.’
Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV1.
