Viewers have complimented Davina McCall‘s instructive television series about women’s contraception, saying it has been a “long time coming.”
In her hour-long Channel 4 documentary Pill Revolution, the famous broadcaster, 55, investigated the situation of contraception in the UK and the difficulties women experience in obtaining it.
Davina explored the pill, which was introduced more than 60 years ago, as well as its negative effects and the four other types of contraception during the sexual health show.
This includes the implant, the contraceptive patch, the vaginal ring, and the coil, which was a “game changer” for the TV personality, who continues to use the Mirena kind to augment her HRT medication.
Davina was videotaped having her coil removed and replaced by a gynaecologist as part of her documentary in order to explain the 10-minute surgery, which other women have frequently claimed as exceedingly painful, driving many women off the type of contraception.
The mother of three was filmed responding in real time as Professor Dame Lesley Regan, a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist and women’s health advocate, took her through the treatment while she did it on her.
The former Big Brother presenter also described Dame Lesley’s advise to breathe out at a certain point as’mind-blowing’ in how it helped her cope with the agony.
She did acknowledge to two instances of discomfort during the coil fitting, describing the most severe as a “scrape” across her uterus, and she also noticed cramps.
However, Davina believed it was worth it for “five years of not having to bother about it” because coils can be kept in place to perform successfully for that long.
Another segment of the show addressed the frequent myth that women must take a seven-day “break” between pill packets in order to get a period.
However, it is a withdrawal bleed rather than a period, and it is entirely safe to use oral contraception constantly. It may also be more successful in preventing conception or reducing period-related difficulties.
Viewers were ecstatic with how much fresh knowledge Davin was providing with them.
‘How bloody fantastic to watch such an informative programme that makes us feel heard!!!’ enthused one fan, while another added: ‘This is crazy! I’ve learnt so much in the first 15 minutes!’
