Alja Korjanec exited Strictly Come Dancing after recognising he was about to repeat himself.
After teaming up with Dragons’ Den star Sara Davies in 2021, the 33-year-old dancer stated in March 2022 that he will not be returning for last year’s series.
At the time, he said in a statement: ‘A little while ago I made the tough decision that Strictly 2021 would be my last. The show has given me an opportunity and freedom to create and express myself in front of millions of people every weekend for the last 9 years.
‘The love and support I got from the team of producers was second to none. Louise Rainbow, Sarah James, Kim Winston, Jack Gledhill are just a few of the unsung heroes behind the success of the show – I am forever grateful to them!’
The Slovenian star, whose wife Janette Manrara is expecting their first child, has now confessed that there was a pivotal moment when he felt it was time to quit the Latin and ballroom programme.
Speaking to HELLO!, he explained how he realised his ‘creative juices were not flowing as easily’ anymore, and he found himself subconsciously looking to repeat choreography.
‘It took longer to create numbers, it took longer to come up with songs that hadn’t been used, that I hadn’t used,’ he said.
‘There was even an instance when I got this great idea; I was in the car… I sent the track to [the] producer saying “Oh my goodness this would be an amazing Argentine Tango, could you please find out for me who has done it, when has it been done…”
‘They call me back in literally two minutes and go, “Are you serious? It was you that did it three years ago…”
‘When those sorts of moments started happening, I was like, you know what, it’s time. And I never ever felt like I left anything on the dance floor.’
Meanwhile, Aljaz has already claimed to sobbing “pretty much every single day” throughout Janette’s pregnancy.
‘I’m pregnant with her – I cry pretty much every single day! I just watched a couple of videos from Britain’s Got Talent and I was sobbing,’ he told OK! Magazine.
The couple suddenly found she was pregnant in December, just as they were ready to begin the IVF procedure, and she would give birth to their first child together this summer.
He added: ‘The struggles some people go through to fall pregnant – I’m just amazed by women.’
