Moneybags, a game show hosted by Craig Charles, has been cancelled by Channel 4 after two seasons.
Moneybags, which premiered in November 2021, returned for a second 30-episode season in August of last year, finally ending in September.
Each week, ten new contenders were introduced, and £1 million was distributed among 100 moneybags ranging from £1,000 to £100,000.
For each game, twenty bags were picked at random; once a bag was chosen, it was out of play for the rest of the week.
The Money Belt then strung across the stage, with bags arriving at one end and the host standing near a chute at the other.
The participants would then compete in multiple rounds to win the various bags.
Despite being a big hit with audiences, it looks to have been cancelled.
‘Moneybags has a really big and loyal fan base and having Craig on board just made it perfect,’ a source told The Sun.
‘Unfortunately, Covid has once again played it’s part causing the production behind it to go bust.’
Starting in the 3pm timeslot to begin with, it was later moved to the coveted 5pm slot.
However, the show’s creators, Youngest Media, closed down and began the liquidation process last month.
Craig, who played Dave Lister in Red Dwarf, revealed last year that he was lured to the game show job because of the thrill and life-changing amount of money on offer.
‘I always thought I wanted to do one, and thought I’d be quite good at that, but it’s just getting the opportunity I suppose, so I’m grateful to have the opportunity with a game that fits my personality and a game that I’d love to play myself, it’s a great game,’ he told Metro.co.uk and other publications.
Moneybags is streaming on All4.
