Shalom Brune-Franklin, who starred in Great Expectations, revealed she was frightened before meeting Olivia Colman for the first time.
The Line of Duty actress, 28, co-stars with Olivia, 49, in the Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight’s BBC version of Charles Dickens’ classic.
The Crown actress plays Miss Havisham, while Shalom plays Estella in the story, which follows orphan Pip (Fionn Whitehead), who suddenly inherits a big fortune and is forced to navigate between his newfound wealth and Victorian England’s poverty.
Shalom appeared on Thursday’s This Morning to discuss her co-star with hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield ahead of the highly anticipated drama’s premiere.
Holly, 42, described Olivia Coleman as ‘wonderful and totally horrifying’ in her performance as Miss Havisham.
Nodding in agreement, The Tourist actress said: ‘Like, truly. That outfit is just unbelievable.’
‘Yet,’ Phil jumped in, before continuing: ‘One of the world’s most lovely people.’
Shalom asked, indicating to Holly and Phil: ‘You guys would’ve met her, right?’
‘Oh, lots of times,’ Phil replied. ‘She’s just lovely.’
Estella and Miss Havisham have a “toxic, horrible” relationship, according to Shalom, and she hopes to put her trepidation of meeting The Lost Daughter actress onto her role.
She added: ‘I was hoping that my fear of actually meeting Olivia Colman could play into it a little bit. I thought, “I’m going to be terrified when I see her on set so just use it.”
‘And then I met her and she’s just the nicest, friendliest, funniest person ever. So I thought, “I might actually have to do some acting instead.”‘
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV. Great Expectations will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Sunday March, 26.
