Amy Lou Smith of Britain’s Got Talent announced that she gave birth to a baby girl just hours before her audition broadcast to the world.
Amy stunned the panel and the audience with her performance of Beyonce’s Listen during Saturday’s premiere, which featured the return of judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and newcomer Bruno Tonioli.
‘That was by far my favourite audition so far,’ Alesha enthused.
Amanda added: ‘The moment you started singing I was covered in goosebumps. I was thinking your baby is probably having a lovely little sleep in there and the she’s gone ‘oh, here we go!’. You are a star.’
Amy Lou, who is also mum to a four-year-old son, said that her newborn baby Aida ‘is absolutely perfect and healthy in every single form.’
‘I am so overwhelmed with all the love and support I’ve received from being on the show I cannot put into words how in love we are with our perfect little girl. She’s made the family complete,’ she told The Mirror.
‘We didn’t know my audition would be airing this weekend until the day before and I was already booked in to have Aida – so we were so shocked! I hadn’t told anybody on the show I was having her this weekend – so it’s crazy!’
BGT debuted in 2007 and has already spawned a number of celebrities, including dance trio Diversity, tenor vocalist Paul Potts, and probably the show’s most successful competitor, Susan Boyle.
Dancers, singers, comedians, and magicians will all take the stage in the hopes of impressing the judges and winning a position at this year’s Royal Variety Performance as well as a cash award.
Last night also witnessed the first golden buzzer act, which Bruno pressed.
The Ugandan dance troupe Ghetto Kids had the judges on their feet, and the former Strictly Come Dancing star was so delighted that he punched the golden buzzer halfway through their performance.
Britain’s Got Talent airs tonight at 7:45pm on ITV.
