The Roast of Tom Brady has topped Netflix’s most-watched list for the past week, with 13.8 million views, but its triumph has been overshadowed by criticism.
This former Netflix live event, hosted by Kevin Hart, has vaulted into pole place after debuting at number six the previous week. Sports figures and comics team together to ‘roast’ former NFL quarterback Tom Brady.
As a result, numerous noteworthy moments occurred, including a joke about New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft that appeared to cross the line, as well as Kim Kardashian‘s weak reception to her roast.
The crowd booed the reality star when she took the stage, causing the streaming operator to make the choice to censor the live stream.
Brady was overheard telling Ross: ‘Don’t say that sh** again.’
Tom Brady has since confessed that he wouldn’t do another Netflix roast.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, he said that while he ‘loved when the jokes were about me’, the roast had affected ‘the people that I care about the most in the world.’
Despite the criticism, the three-hour event drew 13.8 million views in the last week.
It is the first television show to dethrone Baby Reindeer, which now ranks second with 11.4 million viewers in one week.
The massively acclaimed miniseries stars Richard Gadd as Donny, a failing comic whose one act of charity leads to a terrible encounter with a serial stalker.
It is an unsettling true narrative in which Gadd plays out his own experiences with a stalker to chilling effect.
A Man in Full, a drama about an Atlanta businessman facing bankruptcy, ranks third with 6.7 million views in the last week.
Elsewhere, Bridgerton seasons one and two have returned to Netflix’s top ten following the release of the much anticipated third season last week.
Viewers can not get enough of the sensual historical drama, in which younger Bridgerton Francesca hopes to marry, while Nicola Coughlan‘s character Penelope takes main stage.
