Bill Bailey has said that even after a few years, he still struggles to escape the attention that his experience on Strictly Come Dancing has brought him.
In 2020, the comedian and professional partner Oti Mabuse won the 18th season of the dance competition.
He also became the show’s oldest winner at the age of 55.
The 58-year-old now claims that the show’s impacts are still felt three years later.
‘I walk down the street and some people clock me and they just go dun dun dun,’ he shared while appearing on Lorraine on Friday.
He also stated that, aside from admirers visiting him on a regular basis to talk about his time on the renowned BBC show, he is rather surprised at how many of the dances he could still execute if necessary.
‘When you learn those routines, they are right in there and they don’t leave you,’ he laughed.
Bill stated last year that he had to be persuaded to sign up for the programme “four or five times” before ultimately agreeing.
‘What I objected to was the relentlessness of it,’ he admitted.
‘I just thought, I’ll never be able to commit to this amount of time. It’s ridiculous,’ he added when appearing on Jay Rayner’s podcast Out To Lunch.
‘And then, of course, you know, a once-in-a-century pandemic comes on.’
Bill admitted that he had ‘very low’ expectations for the show before taking part.
‘I mean, my dance skills are very much basically flailing enthusiastically,’ he continued.
‘I’ve never done any choreography. I’ve never taken dance classes. I didn’t even know what the hell I’m doing. So I might end up being the kind of novelty contestant.’
However, he proved to be a strong favourite, eventually winning the championship and defeating other prominent names such as Maisie Smith, Jamie Laing, and Ranvir Singh.
Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV1.
