An eight-year-old girl has described the everyday problems and suffering she experiences as a result of a skin ailment that was previously identified as scabies.
Wynter has had the mysterious ailment since she was a newborn, and she has seen multiple physicians and tried various therapies, but nothing has helped so far.
She’s currently a patient on Dr Pimple Popper, which follows cosmetic surgeon and dermatologist Dr Sandra Lee as she helps patients throughout America, including a lady with maggots in her toes and a man with 400 tumours on his entire body this season.
Previously, the show followed someone with a “third boob” on their shoulder, a sad grandfather with a “plum sized nose,” and a woman who had a bit of lead trapped in her hand for 45 years.
‘I have this horrible skin condition,’ she sweetly begins, in a preview clip for an upcoming episode.
Wynter then reveals that her problem began when she was just six months old.
Her mum then explains: ‘She had a rash that popped up on her inner thigh that was the size of a quarter.
‘It started to spread like all through her legs, and its predominantly now on her arms.’
‘It’s very itchy,’ Wynter adds.
She says: ‘It’s worse when I wear polyester or wool, it gets better with lotion or when I take showers, because it clears it up.’
‘I love hot showers,’ she continues.
Wynter’s mum took her to see ‘a few different doctors’ since she was a young age, revealing she has been diagnosed with ‘psoriasis, eczema and scabies’.
According to the World Health Organisation, scabies is a ‘parasitic infestation caused by tiny mites that burrow into the skin and lay eggs, causing intense itching and a rash.’
Wynter has also had to take a slew of drugs, including steroids.
‘It seems like we go to a doctor, they make a diagnosis, they give us medication, it does nothing.
‘So we go to a different doctor, and it’s the same thing, and you throw your hands up going, “Where do you go? What do I do?”‘ her mum says.
‘Wynter could wake up tomorrow and be covered in this really uncomfortable, very itchy, very painful rash,’ Dr Lee later tells the camera in a confessional.
‘I can see that they’ve given up, they’ve lost hope here, and that’s really important to reverse here.’
Wynter then tells the surgeon how her life has been different to other children her age, due to her condition.
‘She’s never known a life without this,’ her mum says.
Wynter adds: ‘My entire life, I’ve worn pants, and long sleeved shirts because I don’t want…’
‘You don’t want to draw attention to it,’ Dr Lee finishes, as Wynter’s mum adds that she ‘tries to hide her skin’.
Dr Pimple Popper airs on TLC in America.
