Buckingham Palace’s plans to host Strictly Come Dancing have apparently been cancelled for the second time.
It was announced around this time last year that there were plans in the works to host an episode of the dance series within the confines of the venue, but they couldn’t quite come together.
While there was talk of it happening during this year’s season, which starts in September, it appears the concept has been scrapped yet again.
Although King Charles and BBC executives were rumoured to be interested in staging an episode of the new series in the royal house, the preparations were put on hold due to practical concerns.
However, following Queen Elizabeth’s death last year and the coronation a few months ago, the preparations were once again postponed.
Sources at the BBC have confirmed it won’t be happening, while royal sources added there’d been no ‘falling out’, as reported by the Daily Mail.
The newspaper said the royal-themed episode will not air this year, although Palace officials claimed Strictly ‘may still be produced there at some time in the future,’ according to the publication.
Camilla made an unexpected appearance on a Strictly montage during the epidemic, thanking the show’s cast and staff for raising spirits.
As the iconic dance show’s final episode aired in 2020, the BBC posted a video montage of viewers expressing their feelings over the show’s comeback.
Camilla was among them, and she sent a letter to everyone involved in preparing the performance, saying she was’very anxious’ to see who will win the Glitterball Trophy.
‘I’d like, on behalf of everyone who watches Strictly to say an enormous thank you to everybody, everybody who’s been involved in this production in a particularly difficult year,’ she said.
She then added the cast and crew had ‘given everybody so much pleasure and uplifted the nation’.
Strictly Come Dancing is streaming on BBC iPlayer.
