Harrison Ford had press conference participants in stitches on Friday when he replied to appreciation expressed for his body in a shirtless scene from the next Indiana Jones film.
Ford, 80, is reprising his role as Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny for the final time.
In the film, Indy is finally putting up his fedora and retiring from teaching, when his long-lost goddaughter reappears in his life.
An early shot shows the movie great napping in a recliner in his New York residence wearing nothing but boxer shorts – and it’s safe to say this went over very well in some places and is sure to raise a stir among fans as well.
One journalist at the Cannes Film Festival press conference for the film, which was attended by Metro.co.uk and other journalists, told the Star Wars star that he had’still had it’ and was’very hot’ as she voiced her excitement for his shirtless moment and questioned how he kept in shape.
In the same breath, the actor was asked if he could truly ride a horse, as he mounts to the saddle in a spectacular city pursuit with villain Mads Mikkelsen’s thugs through the astronaut ticker-tape parade.
After a somewhat baffled pause following the question, Ford responded wryly: ‘Let me tell you, yeah I can ride a horse – if they let me.’
‘I forgot everything up to “Can you ride a horse?”’ he then added to further amusement.
Director James Mangold prodded the actor, noting that his co-star Mads Mikkelsen had previously shared a ‘Olympian’ anecdote about Ford and how he went on a multi-mile bike ride after a long day of shooting.
‘Which is bulls**t. But very kind. There’s a partial truth,’ the Indiana Jones star conceded as he interjected.
‘Look, I have been blessed with this body – thanks for noticing,’ he then joked.
Talk shifted to the film’s spectacular opening sequence, which portrays Ford as Indy in 1941, with the youth and visage to match owing to some incredible de-aging technology.
‘It’s not photoshop magic. That’s what I looked like 35 years ago,’ Ford pointed out.
‘It’s just a trick unless it’s supported by story. I think it was used very skilfully. I’m very happy with it,’ he confirmed.
However, despite the wishes of certain fans, he has confirmed that there will be no further Indiana Jones adventures in the future in which he appears as a younger version of himself.
Producer Kathleen Kennedy quickly reacted with a stern ‘no,’ as Ford added, ‘You got the answer from the right person.’
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny hits UK cinemas on June 28.
