A brand-new action movie starring Jennifer Lopez is coming to Netflix, and it looks extremely insane.
The Mother, an action-packed thriller that debuts on the streaming service on May 12, has a 53-year-old actress who looks absolutely ferocious.
The Mother, directed by Niki Caro, who was also responsible for Mulan, stars J-Lo as a reclusive assassin who emerges from hiding to protect her daughter (Lucy Paez) at any costs.
The Jenny from the Block singer appears to be going above and beyond to safeguard her now 12-year-old daughter, who she was forced to give up at birth because of her risky career.
I’m a murderer, but I’m also a mother,’ a determined-looking J-lo can be heard saying in the suspenseful teaser, which was just released today. The intense clip closes with the words: ‘And I will die protecting her.’
This will be Jennifer’s first action movie since 2002’s Enough, in which she will star opposite Paul Raci, Joseph Fiennes, Gael Garca Bernal, and Omari Hardwick.
The Wedding Planner, which she co-starred in with Matthew McConaughey, and Maid in Manhattan, a romantic comedy from a year earlier, are two of the singer and actor’s most well-known movies.
But contrary to popular belief, Jennifer has actually dabbled in a greater number of suspenseful thrillers in parts dating back to 1996, when she portrayed Jack Nicholson’s flame in Blood and Wine, and again in 1997’s U Turn.
Speaking to People about casting Jennifer in the main role of The Mother, helmer Niki said: ‘The only thing that surprised me was that Jennifer hadn’t been an action movie hero her entire career.’
‘Jennifer brings her legendary skill and precision to the action elements, but also brings her strength as a dramatic actor and her experience as a mother right to the heart of the movie,’ she added, ‘I knew Jennifer was the only actress for the role.’
Following accusations of nepotism, Ben Affleck defended the inclusion of his wife Jennifer in the next sports movie he and Matt Damon are producing.
In the interview alongside Matt with CBS News, Ben said: ‘Yes, I believe Jennifer Lopez may be doing that movie. Can’t make it look like she’s doing it as a favor to me, but actually she is.’
He added: ‘And in this case, I can say every single person that’s been cast so far I think is the very absolute best choice.’
