It’s not often that the capital entirely surrenders to anything, but as soon as Barbie announced their arrival, the city began to paint itself pink.
London has been preparing to show its support and create the ideal pink backdrop for Margot Robbie and her star-studded entourage ahead of the highly anticipated film’s European premiere.
The ensemble will arrive in the lively city on Wednesday, thrilling fans as they wait to see what retro-Barbie inspired style the leading lady will replicate for her big moment.
Wrapping black taxis and buses with vivid pink ads, the huge Barbie dolls that have been driving through the crowded streets have been difficult to miss.
Locals would have locked eyes with the giant billboards plastered around London and at tube stations if they hadn’t already noticed the transport vehicles bearing the movie’s stars – Ryan Gosling as Ken and Margot as Barbie herself.
Not content with 2D marketing, a Barbie-fied Doctor Who Tardis joined the pink celebration on Tuesday, appearing next to Tower Bridge in all its fluorescent splendour.
News of the pink time machine was shared on the show’s own Instagram account with a caption that read: ‘Come on TARDIS, let’s go party #DoctorWho [sic]’.
According to Variety, the film’s cast are also due to drench the famous landmarks across London in the colour at 9:30pm following the exclusive screening.
Warner Bros. Discovery U.K. & Ireland marketing SVP Alexandra Lewis revealed: ‘Barbie is one of the most highly anticipated films of the year and we’re proud to be partnering with Visit London to create a unique cultural moment for the film: turning the city pink!
‘We’re thrilled to be able to provide the general public with a chance to celebrate the film’s upcoming release in such a fun way and visit iconic landmarks in what will surely be a night to remember.’
The film’s premiere is slated to take place at Cineworld Leicester Square, with director Greta Gerwig and cast members Margot, Ryan, America Ferrera, Issa Rae, and Simu Liu making appearances.
Barbie is due to hit screens for the public on July 21.
