Jeremy Renner has accomplished another milestone in his rehabilitation from a near-fatal snowplough smash by beginning to run.
The Marvel hero, who was hospitalised for his 52nd birthday, was involved in a horrible accident on New Year’s Day when he was crushed by a car.
When he was hit by and ‘dragged under’ the snowplough while attempting to save his nephew, he broke more than 30 bones.
He went home after three weeks under doctors’ care and, despite worries he’d never walk again, has continued to make astounding progress.
The Hawkeye actor has impressed everyone with how far he’s gone in such a short period, from walking his first red carpet to going back in the gym.
He’s back on the treadmill now.
Jeremy took to Instagram to keep his fans updated, posting a video of himself performing a ‘light jog.’
‘First attempt at a very light jog with weight assisted lift for the broken tibia,’ he wrote.
The tibia is the shin bone, and it was one of several that’shattered’ in the collision, along with a collapsed lung and a perforated liver.
Determined to keep pushing on, he added to his post: ‘Pain is progress for me’, followed by a smiley face.
A trainer was filming Jeremy as they shared a laugh in the video.
‘It’s a new activity, right? To move it that I’m not used to. Walking and jogging are very different muscle groups,’ he said.
‘On a good day! Able-bodied, 50+,’ his trainer joked.
‘Yeah, the leg’s still broken,’ Jeremy laughed.
‘Thank goodness for the titanium.’
Jeremy’s update comes after he joked about needing ‘oil’ for his new joints.
Posting a video of himself doing squats and leg exercises, he penned in a caption: ‘UPDATE: I’ve decided to push through the pain of progress (this damn shattered tibia) and take the new parts for a tiny test drive.
‘The body is miraculous…. Even though I feel like the Tin Man, needing oil for all my new joints (hips, knees, ankles, tibia etc ) . Encouraged after this warm up to press on ( don’t tell my PT). 😂.’
Jeremy also recently revisited the medical staff who took care of him to say thank you for looking after him.
He was cared for by workers at Renown Regional Medical Centre, hailing them an ‘amazing group of people’ who ‘saved my life.’
