Fans have now seen their first glimpse at Sofia Coppola’s next Priscilla film.
Cailee Spaeny as Priscilla Presley and Jacob Elordi as Elvis Presley were introduced in a 45-second clip on Wednesday.
The new film, based on Priscilla’s biography Elvis and Me, depicts her life with the King of Rock, to whom she was married for six years.
The film will follow their relationship from the time she was a teenager, with the teaser showing reconstructed photographs of their wedding in 1967 and the birth of their only daughter Lisa Marie in 1968.
‘Priscilla, what about boys at school?’ Priscilla’s mother says in the only dialogue of the trailer. ‘Must be some handsome ones.’
Fans have already expressed their enthusiasm for the upcoming film on social media.
‘This looks great and epic I can’t wait to see it,’ one said, while another wrote: ‘YES!! CAN’T WAIT. Anything Sofia Coppola makes is pure gold.’
A third enthused: ‘I am SEATED. Sofia Coppola always makes the most beautiful, atmospheric films.’
Sofia was named as the director of an adaptation of Priscilla’s memoir last September, and production completed three months later.
When asked what made her want to adapt the biography for her next feature film, the director told Vogue: ‘I’ve had her memoir for years and remember reading it a long time ago.
‘A friend of mine was talking about her recently, and we got around to discussing the book. I read it again and was really moved by her story.’
She continued to the publication: ‘I was just so interested in Priscilla’s story and her perspective on what it all felt like to grow up as a teenager in Graceland.
‘She was going through all the stages of young womanhood in such an amplified world—kinda similar to Marie Antoinette.’
While no release date for Priscilla has been set, it will follow Baz Luhrmann’s biographical drama, Elvis.
