This week, viewers of The Chase had to perform a double take since all four participants’ names had an interesting relationship.
The players on June 19’s show shared a strange link, with all of their names belonging to none other than the Spice Girls!
So, almost.
The ITV challenge programme, hosted by Bradley Walsh, welcomed Gerry, Emma, Mel, and Victoria.
It didn’t take long for viewers at home to see the similarities between Mel Chisholm, Emma Bunton, Mel Brown, Geri Halliwell Horner, and Victoria Beckham.
It also helps that two Spice Girls from the 1990s share the name Mel, therefore no Spice Girl was left out.
Someone needs to give the bosses a rise.
Bradley, 63, didn’t mention the not-so-coincidental casting, but we honestly don’t know how he didn’t see it.
Chaser Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan, on the other hand, was the one who pointed it out.
She couldn’t help but bring it up during the programme, informing Bradley that he’d managed to arrange a reunion.
‘Brad, they said it couldn’t be done but you’ve done it.’
‘What do you mean?’, he replied, clearly confused.
‘You’ve brought the Spice Girls back together!’, Jenny told him.
Tweeting during the programme, spectators were curious to see if others had picked up on the joke.

‘Omg the spice girls are on the chase x’, one person joked.
‘Tonight on the chase… The welcome return and reunion of The Spice Girls (WELL NEARLY)’, another wrote.

‘They’re lucky two of them had the same name or it’d have been tricky’, one person noted.
This isn’t the first time The Chase has had candidates with unusual names.
Viewers were left in stitches in February of last year when the four participants were revealed to be Marge, Bart, Maggie, and Lisa, which we believe was done on purpose by the producers.
Fans were left wondering if they were all connected, while some wished for Homer to emerge and round out the family.
