The last episode of Succession finally answers the mystery of who will take over Waystar RoyCo after four seasons.
The HBO series, which premiered in 2018, featured the Roy family, who dominate the worldwide media and entertainment conglomerate and are vying for control of the corporation because to concerns over the health of family patriarch Logan Roy (Brian Cox).
Jeremy Strong, Kieran Culkin, and Sarah Snook played his three children, Kendall, Roman, and Siobhan, who all work for the corporation.
The death of Logan earlier this season startled audiences, leaving the door open for a variety of heirs to stake their claim on the corporation.
The conclusion broadcast on Sky in the United Kingdom on Monday, and reviewers lauded it as “perfect.”
While some fans have yet to view the last episode, others are wondering whether this is the end of the programme that has been so cherished by fans and critics alike.
Will there be another season of Succession?
Succession’s first season premiered in June 2018, with subsequent seasons following in 2019, 2021, and 2023.
It has received 148 nominations for various prizes throughout the years, including Emmys, Baftas, and Golden Globes.
Jesse Armstrong, the show’s creator, stated in February that the fourth season will be the final one.
‘I got together with a few of my fellow writers before we started the writing of season four, in about November, December, 2021, and I sort of said, “look, I think this maybe should be it. But what do you think?”,’ he recalled when speaking to The New Yorker.
‘And we played out various scenarios: We could do a couple of short seasons, or two more seasons. Or we could go on for ages and turn the show into something rather different, and be a more rangy, freewheeling kind of fun show, where there would be good weeks and bad weeks.
‘Or we could do something a bit more muscular and complete, and go out sort of strong. And that was definitely always my preference.’
What about a Succession spin off?
While fans adored the dysfunctional Roy family, it has already been established that we will not see them on television again in any form of spin-off.
HBO head of drama Francesca Orsi told Deadline this week that there had been ‘some talk’ about spinoffs, but when asked if there were any plans for one, she said ‘no, not at all’.
‘I’ll never say never but my instinct and based on a number of conversations about the evolution of Succession and these characters, at this stage, there is no intention of spinning any one character off,’ she said.
She also stated that while she does not know what Armstrong plans to do next, she believes it will be “completely original.”
Succession is available to stream on Sky Atlantic and NOW.
