The Masked Singer returned with a new line-up of characters that got us guessing: Who’s behind the mask?
The launch episode, which aired on Boxing Day, saw Robin go head to head against Alien, Swan, Sausage, Dragon and Badger in the first round.
Each character performed for returning judges Rita Ora, Davina McCall and Jonathan Ross with newcomer Mo Gilligan, who had stepped in for comedian Ken Jeong.
Alien landed in the bottom three with Swan and Badger with the panellists choosing Alien to be eliminated – and behind the mask was singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor.
As one mystery was revealed another rolled on with viewers left wondering who Robin might be.
One name that kept popping up after Robin’s performance was JLS singer Aston Merrygold.
Let’s look into the clues and theories that could point to Aston being behind the mask.
Robin’s performance
The song choice of Don’t Stop The Feeling by Justin Timberlake could hint at Aston’s time on Strictly Come Dancing in 2017.
He and professional partner Janette Manrara danced the Cha Cha to the song while dressed as Trolls from the film of the same name.
Robin’s costume
The Robin outfit could be a nod to the singer’s early days in showbiz.
In 2002 he competed on Stars In Your Eyes as Michael Jackson, where he sang his early classic Rockin’ Robin.
‘Flying without wings’
Robin added fuel to the fire at the end of their performance, when they hinted to the judges they were ‘flying without wings’.
Of course this could just be a reference to whoever is behind the mask being dressed as a bird and feeling good about their performance.
However Flying Without Wings is the name of the Westlife hit JLS sang with the Irish group on The X Factor in 2008. Another nod to Aston?
Robin is still in the competition, so until they are unmasked we will have to keep guessing!
Last year Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts won The Masked Singer as Queen Bee.
The Masked Singer continues Saturday at 7pm on ITV.
