The Fallen Sun, the film sequel to the BBC series starring Idris Elba’s Luther, debuted in theatres throughout the UK this weekend.
Luther, the detective series in which Elba’s police officer character faced up against serial murderer Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson), premiered in 2010.
The series subsequently had four more seasons until concluding with season five in 2019, gaining critical praise throughout its existence.
As the series ended in 2019, many thought that was the end of it, but discussion of a movie emerged in 2021, and official preparations were announced last year.
Now that The Fallen Sun has been released in select theatres, Luther is returning to the small screen on Netflix.
