Tom Hiddleston, from The Night Manager, returns for a second season.
In a second wave of John le Carré adaptations for Amazon Prime Video and the BBC, the actor will reprise his role as protagonist Jonathan Pine.
Season 2 is set to begin production later this year in both London and South America, but details about the project, codenamed Steelworks, are being kept under wraps for the time being.
Season 2 will be written by David Farr, who also authored the previous season.
While Amazon and the BBC have yet to formally approve a second season, the popular show is expected to receive a two-season order, according to Deadline.
According to the magazine, the second run of The Ink Factory adaptation will be set in the present day.
‘Following British arms dealer Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie) being taken away by the Syrians at the end of Season 1, Hiddleston’s Pine is informed he is dead two years later, and he has to face up to a new, even more deadly challenge,’ the publication reports.
The announcement of a second season will likely delight fans who have been waiting for news of a new season since The Night Manager’s first season finished in 2016.
The programme, which followed Pine, an ex-British soldier, as he was hired by an intelligence officer as a clandestine spy, went on to win two Emmys and three Golden Globes.
Pine was assigned with infiltrate Roper’s inner circle, a hidden armaments dealer who was also the murderer of his lover.
The first season also included a star-studded cast that included Olivia Colman, Tom Hollander, Elizabeth Debicki, and David Harewood.
Hiddleston’s acting résumé is already spectacular, and The Night Manager is just another feather in his cap.
