James Marsden is very upset that Westworld has been cancelled after four seasons.
The drama, which is based on Michael Crichton’s 1973 science fiction movie, debuted on TV in 2016 and was an instant hit with fans. It took us all into the scary world of artificial intelligence.
But HBO bosses said that the award-winning sci-fi show, which starred Evan Rachel Wood, Thandiwe Newton, Tessa Thompson, and Aaron Paul, was officially cancelled just a few months after the series finale aired in November.
Marsden said of the brutal end of the show, “I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a disappointment how we ended Westworld.”
‘I’m never going to speak without gratitude about any of my experiences, but it would have been nice to be able to complete the story we wanted to finish.’
Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy had planned out five seasons of the sci-fi drama Westworld, but HBO cancelled the show and threw out their plans.
Even worse, the streamer took the programme off the air completely.
Marsden knows that this is how the business works, but he is still devastated by the move.
‘I love this Westworld family,’ he continued to Rolling Stone. ‘It was one of those unique opportunities to be part of something where I also would be sitting at home ravenously waiting for the next episode as a fan.
‘Totally understand it’s an expensive show and big shows have to have big audiences to merit the expense, I just wish it was about more than financial success.’
Despite West World’s cancelation, he is remaining hopeful that it could be picked up elsewhere.
‘Maybe there’s some world where it can get completed somehow,’ he added.
‘Maybe that’s just wishful thinking because I know we had plans to finish it the way we wanted to.’
Bosses confirmed the news of Westworld’s end in a statement, which read: ‘Over the past four seasons, Lisa and Jonah have taken viewers on a mind-bending odyssey, raising the bar at every step.
‘We are tremendously grateful to them, along with their immensely talented cast, producers and crew, and all of our partners at Kilter Films, Bad Robot and Warner Bros. Television.
‘It’s been a thrill to join them on this journey.’
