Adam Thomas of Waterloo Road has been named as the eighth Strictly Come Dancing candidate for the 2023 series.
The casting announcement comes after the actor stated that he wanted to “experience” the famed Strictly curse.
He said in a statement: ‘I am so excited to be joining the cast of this years’ Strictly Come Dancing. I’ve been such a big fan of the show for years, I can’t believe I’m actually doing it! I can’t dance to save my life but I’m buzzing to learn and have a good laugh with my pro. Get me on that dance floor…I can’t wait!’
This isn’t the 34-year-old’s first foray into reality television; he finished third on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2016.
The actor is presently starring on Waterloo Road as Donte Charles, a role he initially played in 2006.
After three years away from the programme, he resumed repeating the role this year.
He’s also been in Doctors, Casualty, and Emmerdale, and his brothers are former actors Ryan Thomas and Scott Thomas from Love Island.
Adam joins the cast of the 2023 season alongside Amanda Abbington, Angela Rippon, Layton Williams, Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Eddie Kadi, Angela Scanlon, and Zara McDermott.
The actor has previously stated that he wanted to experience the ‘Strictly curse,’ which occurs when celebrity participants who are already in relationships get romantically linked with professional dancers on the show.
Addressing the rumour about him taking part, he said: ‘Bring it all on. I love a bit of glitz and glam. I just want to experience the Strictly curse,’ The Sun reported.

Adam has been married to Caroline Daly since 2017, and they have one kid together. The couple is currently the parents of two children.
Caroline and Adam celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary in April of this year.
The future Strictly Come Dancing judge commemorated the occasion by posting an Instagram photo of his wife kissing him on the cheek and writing in the caption how much he adores her.
‘Happy 15 anniversary!!! @carolinethomas23 🎉,’ he wrote at the time.
‘I’m a huge over thinker and over think everything.
‘…the one thing i didn’t have to think twice about, was falling in love with you ❤️.’
Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year.
