Open House: The Great Sex Experiment, a Channel 4 show that makes Love Island appear as racy as an episode of Antiques Roadshow, has thrown up the doors to its rural home once more.
With the guidance of intimacy therapist Dr Lori Beth, monogamous couples check in and explore the concept of opening up their relationships. The sexually liberated citizens are waiting for them, and they are eager to help them realise their ambition of allowing new partners into their unions.
Priya and Brendon, who met at work and had been together for several years, rolled their luggage into the luxurious mansion to put their relationship to the ultimate test.
Their position was rather unique in that, unlike most visiting couples who are both eager to get hands-on, Priya was primarily interested in making contacts.
‘I wanted to go there and explore my sexuality,’ Priya explained.
‘I’ve always been very curious about whether I was bisexual. I was confused, and asking myself: “Is there was something wrong with me?”
‘Open House was my chance to find out my sexuality in a safe environment as I struggle in the real world. I do get hit on by girls, but I’ve often found that when I go to LGBTQ+ places I end up speaking to girls who are straight and just want to have a laugh.’
While some may anticipate Brendon to be against Priya dating other people, he actively supports it and prefers to stay monogamous himself. It was his idea, after all, to fill out an application for Open House.
‘I wanted to chicken out as I worried the girls would be fake, or we wouldn’t get along, but Brendon was encouraging me in the right ways,’ recalled Priya.
‘I’m glad we went through with it because now I have my answer – I’m definitely bisexual.’
Priya ends up having a hot tub session with two ladies before going to the bedroom for ‘absolutely cherished’ three-way kisses and hugs. Brendon, on the other hand, went to bed early and began reading a new book.
‘I was absolutely fine with going to bed alone. I’d rather not be in the same room, as I wanted her to build up the confidence without me and try to understand whether she is bisexual,’ he said.
In fact, dominatrix Priya, and systems and data analyst Brendon, feel closer than ever.
‘I was a bit overwhelmed with my love for Brendon. Not many men would allow me to do my own thing, and love me so much at the same time,’ shared Priya.
‘It hit me that I couldn’t live without him. We were both quite emotional, as we felt so in love. We kept telling each other how in love we were.’
Brendon felt the same way, and it motivated him to propose just before they boarded a cab back to Newcastle.
‘I was pretty overwhelmed with the experience and obviously very happy so I wanted to propose there and then. It was something I’d considered doing for a couple of years, but this experience felt like what I needed to actually do it,’ he explained.
‘I believe Priya exploring her sexuality and kissing other women brought us closer and made me know it was the right time to get engaged. She has accepted she is bisexual and can see I accept it too. Seeing her with another woman just feels fun and casual.’
An emotional Priya gave a big yes. ‘Getting engaged was the best part of the experiment.’
She quickly added: ‘The second best part was the three-way kiss.’
After a year since their episode aired, preparations for their private wedding celebration are well along. They could be a special attendance sitting in the pews, but they haven’t met Priya’s girlfriend yet.
‘I’m still looking for someone, but I need to have an emotional attachment, rather than it just be about sex.
‘Brendon continues to be supportive. He helps me pick matches on dating apps, as well as drops me off and picks me up from dates, and we have the debrief together.
‘I find that women often just want to get in my pants, which makes me want to give up, but Brendon tells me to keep trying.
‘He’ll tell me to get dressed and go on a date even when I can’t be bothered.’
Priya knows exactly what she wants for their future: ‘Eventually I’d like to have a girl who could come to the bedroom with both of us, but I don’t want Brendon to interact with her. Some people may say that’s not fair, but that’s how I want it and he is happy with that.
‘Brendon will always be my number one though.’
Meanwhile, Brendon remains steadfast in being a one-woman man: ‘Priya could have ten women and I’d still only want her,’ he declared.
