Greg James has announced that he will miss his Radio 1 breakfast show because his wife, Bella Mackie, has been taken to the hospital.
The radio DJ, 37, updated followers on Instagram, saying he needed to be at her side for an emergency surgery.
Bella, the author of How to Kill Your Family, and Greg married in September 2018 after she proposed in February of that year.
Taking to his Instagram Stories on Thursday evening, Greg reshared a post from Bella, writing on top: ‘Today hasn’t been a classic tbh.’
Sharing a snap from a hospital bed, Bella had said: ‘In the morning I have to have surgery for appendicitis and I am terrified.
‘If you’ve had this op and want to reassure me, that would be nice (only reassurance nothing else).’
Greg later shared a selfie of them both, writing: ‘Luckily for her she married an annoyingly upbeat man to keep her company (before I get chucked out).’
He promised to return to the airwaves on Monday, but he needed to be ‘on call’ on Friday morning to care for his wife.
Greg then joked: ‘Tbh I think Bella might chuck me out before the nurses do.
‘Ps I know it’s always mentioned by f**king hell we’re lucky that so many brilliant people work for the NHS.
‘I’m never not amazed by them. They’ve all been so kind to a very anxious patient today.’
Greg has previously been commended for how he supports his wife and her anxiety troubles, saying that he wants to ‘give solidarity’ to people who live with a loved one who suffers from mental health issues.
The presenter told The i: ‘I want to offer solidarity to anyone who lives with or loves a person who suffers with mental health problems.
‘Each person is of course different. The hope of this piece is to get you to start a dialogue with your favourite sad ghost and work out some strategies together.
‘But please remember to make some time for yourself, you’re not supposed to be anyone’s therapist.’
He added: ‘It’s also important to be prepared for there to be no solution sometimes. Life isn’t like that. Embrace that.
‘Our relationship is multi-faceted and that’s how it should be – I wouldn’t change anything about it. Or Bella.
‘It shouldn’t be brilliant all the time, crucially, it shouldn’t be awful all the time. But it should be full of love.’
