Vanessa Feltz has told how Holly Willoughby contacted her after hearing about her attack by Rolf Harris.
Holly, 42, appeared on This Morning for the first time since her former co-host Phillip Schofield abruptly resigned from ITV after confessing he lied about his connection with a younger colleague.
Holly’s remark in response to the controversy was mocked by fans, celebrities, and even Harry Hill, 58, on Have I Got News For You.
Ex-This Morning anchor Eamonn Holmes has also been critical of Holly on his GB News show.
Vanessa, 61, a regular on This Morning with Holly and who was informed of Phil’s infidelity live on her own TalkTV show, has stood out to defend her colleague, demonstrating how thoughtful she is.
‘She’s a really nice, good natured, kind, sweet person,’ Vanessa stressed.
‘She really is. For example, all of this was going on, and then Rolf Harris died.
‘I was asked about the fact [Harris] sexually assaulted me live on TV, and so I told the story again.
‘And then I got a message from Holly just saying, “Are you OK? It must be really hard for you to talk about it. Are you alright?”’
‘I said, “Of course I’m fine. You know it was a long time ago. In fact, I was even fine at the time – I was married with two kids, I wasn’t a child, I was perfectly able to deal with it. More to the point, how are you?”’
Vanessa stated that she was ‘honoured’ to call Holly her friend and expressed her condolences to everyone ‘implicated’ in what had occurred.
Holly told This Morning viewers that her former co-hosts’ admission and subsequent departure left her “shaken, worried, and let down.”
Josie Gibson, Alison Hammond, Craig Doyle, and Dermot O’Leary have replaced Phil since then.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
