Lady Gaga’s two dogs were kidnapped when she was out with her dog walker, Ryan Fischer, who was shot and left for dead.
Jennifer McBride later returned them on the same day she stated she would give a $500,000 (£418,000) reward for their recovery.
McBride sued Gaga in February after not getting the $10,000 incentive when she returned the animals, claiming the singer made it “extremely clear” that there would be “no questions asked.”
However, i documents obtained by CBS News, the world-famous star is fighting back, claiming the woman knew they had been stolen.
‘Plaintiff Jennifer McBride seeks to profit from her participation in a crime,’ Gaga’s attorney states in court papers.
‘The law does not allow a person to commit a crime and then profit from it.’
McBride claimed to have spotted the canines on the street by happenstance and had ‘no clue’ they belonged to Gaga, according to Gaga’s attorneys.
They argued she was a ‘direct and knowing participant in the criminal enterprise’.
McBride was sentenced to two years probation in December after pleading no contest to intentionally receiving stolen items.
She said she fulfilled her obligation under the provisions of the incentive contract, but Gaga had no intention of paying it.
McBride was claiming for breach of contract, false promise fraud, and misrepresentation fraud.
She was also demanding legal expenses and compensation for financial losses, pain and suffering, mental anguish, and loss of pleasure of life, but Gaga’s attorneys maintained that returning the dogs did not do her any harm.
McBride’s complaint was dismissed by a court last month.
