Tommy Fury has revealed how he and Molly-Mae Hague chose the name Bambi for their kid – and it took years.
On Thursday’s Loose Women, the boxer appeared in the Loose Women studio following his stunning victory against Jake Paul in Saudi Arabia.
The former Love Island star, who met Molly-Mae on the ITV reality programme in 2019, described his training as ‘difficult’ in the weeks preceding up to his showdown with the YouTuber, which occurred only weeks after his girlfriend gave birth to their daughter.
Tommy, 23, said how he and Molly-Mae, also 23, had ‘a lot of FaceTime chats’ when they were apart, as he swung between being a ‘aggressive man getting ready for war’ and a ‘daddy’ mode.
Claiming that he wasn’t ‘bothered’ by anybody who condemned him for being away from his child – emphasising that he was performing the lucrative fight ‘for her’ – the boxer was then asked about the origin of the distinctive baby name Bambi.
Some fans could have believed that the pair were merely enormous lovers of the 1942 animated Disney picture Bambi.
Molly-Mae, on the other hand, had chosen the name long before Tommy entered her life.
‘It’s a really amazing story to be honest, because obviously in the villa, we were talking about it. Then when we left, we were talking about it even more, having babies,’ he told the Loose Women panel, which comprised Charlene White, Judi Love, Nadia Sawalha, and Jane Moore.
‘There was only one name for our little girl, and it was Bambi because when Molly was young, she only ever wanted to call her little daughter one thing, and that was Bambi. So I’m not gonna be that guy to say no. And I love the name anyway.’
Charlene then chimed in to ask their guest: ‘How much do you love being a dad?’
‘It’s the best thing that has ever happened to me. Forget the boxing,’ he replied, as the audience let out a collective ‘aww’ and clapped.
Molly-Mae initially announced their daughter’s name on Instagram days after giving birth in January, posting a photo of the baby in her crib next to a Bambi toy and the name in neon lighting on the wall.
‘Taking the most wonderful gift in the world home,’ she captioned a video she uploaded a few days later. Every time I view this video, I cry with joy.’
Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV.
