Tom Davis was on the most recent edition of Stand Up To Cancer’s Great Celebrity Bake Off, and he managed to bond with his renowned co-stars in between baking cakes.
Former Little Mix star Jesy Nelson was among them, and the 44-year-old comic feels strongly about protecting her after ‘rough comments.’
The singer’s most recent single, Bad Thing, did not make it into the top 100 in the previous month, and she opened out about being ‘pitted’ against her former comrades.
Tom stands staunchly behind her, telling Metro.co.uk at The Prince’s Trust Awards, ‘Jesy Nelson is a legend.’
‘She’s funny,’ he remarked, expanding on what makes Jesy, 31, legendary. One of the most amusing persons I’ve ever worked with. She’s a lovely young lady. Very straightforward. Very stable. She’s a delight to be around.’
The Prince’s Trust event, held at London’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane, recognises young people who have succeeded against the odds, improved their life chances, and had a positive impact on their local community, and Tom sees Jesy as someone who has done incredibly well despite ‘a lot of adversity.’
‘We’re here celebrating young people doing amazing things, and for me Jesy Nelson is that,’ he explained.
‘She’s put up with a lot of adversity. She’s put up with tough comments, and tough things from a very young age. She’s seen her way through it.’
‘She’s a real testament. She’s someone who’s shown real mental strength in quite trying times.’
Tom also has a soft spot for actor David Schwimmer, especially after he asked him about his daughter, who welcomed with wife Kathryn through a surrogate in December.
‘David and me – we’ve messaged a few times since. He’s incredible. It’s a pinch me moment being in a tent with Ross from Friends. He’s been really sweet. I have a little girl. Not long before that [show], my daughter was born.
‘Whenever he checks in he always asks after my daughter, and I find that is testament to his character.’
Tom adds: ‘He’s a very deserved winner. He should be opening a delicatessen. He’s a phenomenal baker.’
Tom, on the other hand, acknowledges that he now prefers eating meringues than preparing them!
